Sweet Potato King?

Sweet Potato King?

Jim Hoy

Mississippi has its Sweet Potato Queens, but Cedar Key may have the Sweet Potato King. Local resident and avid gardener Howard Powell raises a variety of vegetables in elevated beds filled with sea weed and potting mix. This year`s crop of sweet potatoes was good, but the surprise was a thirteen pound giant sweet potato that may be a world`s record.

Mr. Powell sent an e-mail to The Guiness Book of Records to find if there is a known record weight for sweet potatoes. The potato has the shape of a plucked turkey, and as Thanksgiving approaches the fate of the specimen is undecided.
