Incumbent Dottie Haldeman Narrowly Defeats Challenger

Jim Hoy

A swing of seven votes would have meant defeat for Water and Sewer Board member Dottie Haldeman by challenges Michael Day. Haldeman led throughout counting of the ballots, but not by enough to obviate counting of absentee ballots. After a stack of 43 absentee ballots were counted, 21 for Day and 15 for Haldeman, Haldeman was reelected 190 to 177.

The key issue in the Water and Sewer Board election was a proposed merger of water and sewer services into City services. At a Candidates' Forum April 26 the audience applauded Haldeman's position against merger. Door-to-door campaign efforts by Haldeman and Day gave focus to the merger issue.
