The Big Dock Is Finished! | The Big Dock Is Finished!Jim Hoy Rob Corbitt just after approving completion of the new fishing pier.
|
At exactly 2:28 PM (EDT), August 7, 2008 Cedar Key's "Big Dock" was officially certified for occupancy by Rob Corbitt of the Levy County Building and Zoning Department. The winners of the Cedar Key News contest to pick the completion date will be happy. The local and visiting fishermen will be happy, as will be the Levy County Commissioners who have had the dock construction project in their laps for more than four years. (See related article for the winner of the CKN contest.) Mr. Corbitt inspected the new dock, properly called a fishing pier, and declared the plumbing, electrical and structural elements complete, thereby accepting the work of Lucas Marine Construction, Inc. Lucas Marine's contract with Levy County called for the project to be completed in a little less than nine months. Work began on the project in late November 2007. The $3,600,000 funding for the project came from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The concrete construction and the elevated height of the fishing pier should gaurentee its survival under extreme storm conditions. Adjacent to the new fishing pier, the Rusty Rim Pub has installed ladders to make access to the pub easier for boaters.
