Thomas A. Duggan

Obituary

Thomas A. Duggan died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the E.T. York Hospice Center in Gainesville. He was 71 years old.

Thomas was born to Charles J. and Constance V. Duggan on October 25, 1938 in Lackawanna, NY. He played high school football at Father Baker High School in Lackawanna and was an altar server at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lackawanna.

He was employed in trucking, then moved to Rochester for a career in sales. He enjoyed his time spent traveling to Ireland. In 1993, a spinal cord injury left him a quadriplegic. He decided to move to Florida in 1994 and then to Cedar Key in 1995. Severe physical disability did not disable his sense of humor or interest in and enjoyment of other people. He always made the best of things and handled difficulty with grace and a wonderful smile. He will be remembered and missed greatly by those who loved and knew him.

Thomas was predeceased by his sister, Constance Berg, and brother, Charles J. Duggan, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Duggan; his four daughters, Kathleen (Tom) Benton, Colleen (Jacob) Williams, Karen (Jim) Godshall, Contance Duggan (husband Chris Gomperts); his five granddaughters, Erin Benton Ludwig and husband Lawrence L Ludwig III, Katriona Williams, Kristen Godshall, Rachel Duggan, Clara Duggan; his seven grandsons, John Benton, Paul Benton, Joshua Benton, Caleb Benton, Brandon Williams, Shawn Godshall, Aiden Duggan; one great-grandson, Landis Ludwig; his four sisters, Patricia (William) Kraft, Terry (Jim) Decker, Mary Jo Duggan, Judy Duggan (husband William Baker); his three brothers, John E. Duggan, Michael P. (Grace) Duggan, Laurence J. (Nancy) Duggan, and 30 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cedar Key United Methodist Church (State Road 24 in Cedar Key). In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Shepherd Center (a Catastrophic Care Hospital), 2020 Peachtree Road N.W., Atlanta GA 30309.
