Middle School Basketball Teams Wrap Up the Season

By Laia Gore
Shark Correspondent

Both Cedar Key middle school boys` and girls` basketball teams finished up their season with a victory against Dunnellon Christian. The middle school Lady Sharks played their closest game of the season; winning by a single basket. The final score of the game was 6 to 4; Sharks with the win. After the game some of the veteran players commented on the season, "This year was my favorite year playing middle school basketball. My goals for this past season were to improve as much as I could, to play as hard as I could, and just enjoy my last year playing with Coach Brad; and I`m proud to say that I have met them. I can`t wait to play high school ball but I was definitely miss being on the middle school team. To all the girls who will be leading the team next year, I hope you have as much fun as I did and good luck!" -Brooke Allen.

Also, Lauren Bartholemy commented about this tightly bonded girls` basketball team, "The rookies on the team worked really hard, and I think that they will be able to step up to the plate next year. Our 7th graders know the plays well and will be great starters next year. Our 8th graders are excited for next year but show their sadness about leaving middle school." The middle school girls finished their season with a record of 4 wins and 4 losses.

The middle school boys` team, as always, played an excellent game. Their fired up offence plowed over Dunnellon, finishing with the winning score of 31-21. Two of the 8th graders that will be moving up next year had some thoughts about their game that ended a nearly perfect season; "In the past season Cedar Key middle school boys did very well. We had 7 wins and 1 loss. In our last game we had lots of fun and everyone got to play." -Bobby Trammel. Jake Marrall commented on their well played game as well, "In our last game everyone did good and played hard; a good ending to a great season."

The Varsity Girls Basketball team would like to thank everyone who supported them by making donations to the team for our shoes. The winner of the raffle was Jay Bierman. Without the support of the community not all of the players would have been able to purchase basketball shoes, which are needed to limit the amount of turned ankles. The regular season is done for the Varsity Girls and "as always Coach Chris Cowart never gave up through out the season" says sophomore Jenny Bierman, this is her third year playing.
