Art Teacher Fund Progresses

The community effort to supplement $40,000 contributed by the Cedar Key Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) toward $61,000 needed for the arts program at Cedar Key School is going well. A leader in the campaign, Joan Horn, told the CRA meeting March 2 that the effort is within $4,500 of the goal.

She added that student art will be presented for sale at City Park on March 20. The student art will showcase the high quality of the program and raise money as well. The goal must be met by April 1 so that planning for the 2010-2011 school year can be finalized.

In addition to a mail solicitation to individuals, local businesses will be asked for support. Furthermore, Schwan`s, the mobile food delivery company, has a commitment to support local charities. Details are yet to be worked out, but that is another source of contribution. Rosie Cantwell is coordinating the Schwan`s effort.

The CRA board unanimously passed a resolution to transfer the $40,000 needed for the Art Teacher Fund. Individuals that wish to make a contribution may do so at Drummond Community Bank or Cedar Key School.
