Steven Max Fehmerling

Obituary

Steven Max Fehmerling of Cedar Key left this world Monday, July 5, 2010. He was 66 years old. He graduated from Cedar Key High School in 1961 as Valedictorian and was an all-area basketball player. Steven attended Rollins College from 1961-1964 on a basketball scholarship. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, and after serving four years he was honorably discharged as an E-5 Staff Sergeant. Steven returned to Gainesville and attended the University of Florida, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelors of Arts degree. He loved the Gators and became friends with Steve Spurrier. After leaving UF he went to work with Doug Bishop Masonry, where he was superintendent of construction. They built the Steve Spurrier Health and Fitness Center in Gainesville.

Steve followed in his dad`s footsteps in construction and carpentry work. He was a general contractor and home builder and worked for numerous construction companies including Specialty Restaurant Corp., Koblar Construction and Beach Construction. In 1998 he worked on the renovation of Cedar Key City Hall. From 1993-1996 he journeyed off to Alaska with his daughter and had side jobs of residential remodeling. Steve loved to work with his tools and took pride in his woodworking ability taught to him by his dad.

He was a member and served as director of the Gulf Hammock Hunting Club. He was an avid hunter; he loved being at the "Camp" in the woods with his grandchildren, whom he adored. They were all he talked about, taking them fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Cedar Key Church of Christ. He will be missed very much by his grandchildren, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Garnet Wilder and a son Jason. He is survived by his son Erich (Lisa) Fehmerling, Bushnell, FL; daughter Sarah (Tyrone) Branch, grandsons Vanden and Brian (Tink) Fehmerling of Chiefland, FL, Nolan Hamm, Bushnell, FL, Jordon Branch and granddaughter Jaliyah Branch of Virginia; sisters Kay (Warren) Hallman of Chiefland, FL, Jannie Lee Williams and Shirley Beckham of Cedar Key, FL; brother Bobby Joe (Sissy) Wilder of Dunnellon, FL; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and a host of loving Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation will be held on July 7, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Knauff Funeral Home-Chiefland. Graveside service will be held on July 8, 2010 at 11:00 am at Cedar Key Cemetery with Pastor Daniel Carswell officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home-Chiefland.
