EASTER WEEKEND EVENTS
April 10, 2020
Happy Resurrection Weekend of the Lord Jesus!
We will be doing our best to offer some great ways this Easter Weekend to worship our God, be somewhat connected, obey the guidelines of the authorities, and be as safe as we can. We are praying that technology will cooperate with us. Here are the events that will be going on:
On Good Friday, in front of the Episcopal Church on D Street, we will be setting out a bare wooden cross that will be covered in chicken wire of some sort. For Good Friday I hope it will be a stark reminder of the solemnity of this day in the church calendar. They will also ring the church bell 33 times for the life of Christ at 3pm, the traditional hour marking Jesus giving up his spirit.
Friday 5:00 pm – The March of the cross will leave the First Baptist Church at 5:00 pm. One family will be taking the cross down 2nd st. and placing it in the ground at the beach. Please consider joining us by parking and staying in your vehicles along 2nd st. As the cross and other vehicles pass feel free to honk horns or flash lights and then join in the parade. When we get to the park find a place to park near the Gazebo near the intersection. We will put the cross in at the beach and there will be a short prayer and devotional done from the Gazebo on an FM radio station.
Sunday 7:00 am – Easter Sunrise Service. Come to the park and find a parking place near the Gazebo in the park. We plan to again use the FM transmitter to broadcast the service to you in your vehicle. We will do our best to have prayer, Scripture reading, a couple of hymns, and a short message. Honk horns and flash lights to shout Amen J
Easter Sunday – The Episcopal Church, Rosewood Baptist Church, The Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, and The Church of Christ will all have video sermons available to you online for Easter. You can find them via Facebook or contacting the respective church offices.
On Easter Sunday, you are invited to come and bring flowers from your garden to decorate the cross at the Episcopal Church. It will be a visible reminder to our community of resurrection and new life full of color and joy. To do this we need to have the proper protocols in place: practice social distancing - 6 feet or more apart / where protective gloves when inserting your flowers / where a mask or bandana. They will have a supply of gloves and some cut flowers close by to use if you do not have any. They will chime the bells at noon on Easter Sunday.
