The Arts Center is honored to host Susan Dallas-Swann in the main Gallery and her daughter, Debbie Meeks in the Member Artist Gallery this January. The exhibit opens, Saturday, January 9 and will be open daily from 10 am – 5 pm through January 31. No opening reception is planned, but you will have a chance to meet the artists and visit the exhibit via ZOOM on January 13.

Susan, a Professor Emeritus from The Ohio State University, taught Three-Dimensional Imaging and Media Arts and considers “light” her chosen artistic medium. She states, “Everything we see is light. Light is by its nature and from the beginning of humanity a phenomenon that delights and attracts people of all ages and nationalities.” Intrigued by light, she explores optics, physics, industrial products, and electricity as well as traditional art materials to create light sculptures and projected light images. The unique light images create both large- and small-scale sculptures which she then documents in pastels, watercolor, and digital photographs.

Her inspired exhibits have been described as “bold in imagination, often humorous, technologically exotic, playful, pure and evoking awe.” Susan has been featured in exhibits in public spaces, museums, galleries, and corporations both nationally and internationally. https://dallas-swann.net.DEC 31 CKAC Debbie Meeks 2

Although Susan’s daughter, Debbie Meeks, was raised in the art world, she shied away from traditional artistic expression and instead worked as a cabinetmaker and later a software programmer. Eventually, she has circled back to art, and now is thrilled to co-exhibit with her lifelong-artist mother “who is the source of it all.”  Her exhibit, entitled Surface Tension: Modernist Abstractions is inspired spare minimalist designs and explosive atomic-age forms.  Interested in the tension, energy and optimism of mid-century modern style she initially sketches her paintings electronically, modifying them over a period of time until the design emerges. The physical painting, created with acrylic paint on prepared Masonite, then takes its own pathway from the sketch. https://debbiemeeks.com

On Wednesday, January 13, 2 pm virtual visitors will have the opportunity to “meet the artists” via a ZOOM gallery tour and lecture.  Contact the This email address is being protected from spambots.
