NEW CKPOTTERY 2019
CEDAR KEY ARBOR DAY 2021…
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
January 30,2021
The City of Cedar Key is looking to replace the tree canopy that is rapidly disappearing on our island and is looking for volunteers to help with the task. Please, take part in the re-greening of Cedar Key.
The City needs you; the canopy needs you.
HOME GROWN CEDARS AND OAKS
Cedars and oaks are the order of the day…not just any old oaks and cedars, but oaks and cedars that were grown from acorns and seeds originating in Cedar Key, thereby maximizing their growth potential.
WHAT IS NEEDED…VOLUNTEERS
Guaranteed, no heavy lifting nor digging involved!
The holes will be dug; the irrigation should be established.
Needed are folks to get trees and muhly grasses out of three gallon
and five-gallon cans and plant them in place.
You’ll work with a physically distanced team; Vice Mayor Sue Colson will work with you and supervise.
You’ll need gloves and, of course, a mask.
WHEN YOU ARE NEEDED
Meet at the Cedar Key Cemetery entrance gates at 9 am on Thursday, February 4, 2021.
Should it rain or should we not finish, Friday, February 5, 2021, at 9 am will be the back-up day.
WHY YOU ARE NEEDED
In sunbaked Florida, trees give us shade with which we cool ourselves, oxygen to breathe, less expensive air-conditioning bills to pay, and a heightened aesthetic experience every time we view them. Every new tree increases property values. Mountains of research attest to these, and more assets provided by trees.
YOUR HERITAGE IS CONNECTED WITH THESE TREES
The City of Cedar Key has a long tradition of caring for its magnificent heritage trees. Volumes documenting these three-and four-hundred-year-old trees are in City Hall. They number 162. Each tree is observed, and its condition codified in the volumes every five years.

OUR FUTURE…HEALTHIER, MORE BEAUTIFUL
This Arbor Day 2021 extends the City’s commitment to its canopy, its heritage, and its community.
HOW IS THIS ACTION FUNDED
The Cedar Key tree removal permit fees fund the replacement trees.
