The  Arts Center is honored to host Corine Buechner in the Main Gallery and Mary Prescott in the Member Artist Gallery for February. The exhibit opens, Saturday, February 6 and will be open daily from 10 am – 5 pm through February 28. No opening reception is planned, but you will have a chance to meet the artists and visit the exhibit via ZOOM on February 10.

Corine grew up in Minnesota and developed a love of science and nature at a very young age. Before retirement, she had a long career in health care working as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  Since then, she and her husband spend their summers in northern Minnesota by Lake Superior and the winters here in Cedar Key.

“I love to spend my mornings walking in the woods or by water to take in the beauty of the natural world. Later, when I am in my studio, I try to translate something from my time outdoors into what I am working on. Reflection on water, rocks in a pond, sunlight on leaves can all become inspiration for a new work.  Experimenting with new techniques, mediums and styles keeps the process interesting for me, and allows for continuous learning.”

Mary Prescott is a full-time resident of Cedar Key. Her glass mosaics will be featured in the Members Gallery. Her resume includes 30 years in Event Management followed by a career shift into education. Her artwork started simply. She had a window that needed to be covered, yet did not wish to block the light. Using glass pieces collected from a park on Cedar Key, a reclaimed wood frame window and resin, a passion was born. She now supplies buckets during Coastal Cleanup to repurpose that glass into her artwork.

On Wednesday, February 10, 2 pm virtual visitors will have the opportunity to “meet the artists” via a ZOOM gallery tour and lecture.  Contact the This email address is being protected from spambots.
