A public meeting to receive public comments on the scope of the proposed TARMAC limestone mine in south Levy County will take place Thursday, March 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Tommy Usher Center in Chiefland. Another public meeting will take place in Inglis on Wednesday, March 26. Public Invited to Attend Scoping Meetings on the Tarmac King Road Limestone Mine Environmental Impact Statement The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold two public meetings to receive comments on the scope of the Tarmac King Road Limestone Mine Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The EIS will evaluate the potential impacts of further rock mining in wetlands in southern Levy County, Florida. The mining area includes approximately 4,800 acres, of which 2,700 acres will be mined, and is located five miles north of the town of Inglis. The public is invited to participate in an open exchange of information and submission of comments on the scope of the EIS, the environmental and socioeconomic issues to be addressed, and the alternatives to be considered. The meetings will be held on Wednesday March 26, 2008 at the Inglis Community Center, 137 Highway 40 West, Inglis, FL 34449 and Thursday March 27, 2008 at the Tommy Usher Community Center, 506 Southwest 4th Avenue, Chiefland, FL 32626-0121. 5:30 pm - Registration, sign up to present oral comments, opportunity to review exhibits/information.
