August 18, 2019

The School Board of Levy County held its regular meeting at 6 pm after an executive session for threat assessment training. Superintendent Jeffrey R. Edison and board members Cameron Asbell, Chris Cowart, Brad Etheridge, Paige Brookins, and Ashley Clemenzi were present.

PETITION TO RAISE CKS GRADE FROM A “B” TO AN “A”

Cowart said the Cedar Key School has petitioned to raise the school grade from a “B” to an “A.” Cowart explained, “We missed an “A” by one point.” Cowart believes the DOE missed one student and feels that will be enough to change the grade to an “A.” “I feel certain that students, staff and parents already think of Cedar Key School as an ‘A’ school, but it would be good for CKS to get the grade it deserves.”

NEW CHIEFLAND HIGH SCHOOL

The school board held an emergency meeting on August 5th to finalize the budget request for the new Chiefland High School that Superintendent Edison is going to present to DOE on Thursday the sixteenth of August. Brookins stated, “We have without a doubt established the need for a new school.”

SAFETY FOR THREE -YEAR OLDS

As part of school safety, a new procedure has been instituted to protect the most vulnerable students, the three-year olds. They will be transported in car seats in the front one or two rows. In addition, the three-year olds will have a tag that has the name of persons allowed to pick them up. Everyone picking up a child will be required to show a picture ID. In addition, a camera has been installed to capture the exchange.
