CKS WINS AWARD FOR SPORTSMANSHIP, RALLIES ENERGY

Cedar Key School is one of the most sportsman-like schools in Florida. The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) awards the Fred E. Rozelle to one first place and one runner up per year per school classification to the school whose entire sports program exemplifies sportsman qualities. Cedar Key School has received the first-place award in 2004-2005, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2014-2015, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and now 2018-2019. CKS also won runner up in 2009-210. In addition to being an honor to receive this award, it comes with a check for $2,500. George Tomyn, Executive Director of the FHSAA, presented the award and the check to Kim Bishop, athletic director 2018-2019.
Next the pep rally got into gear beginning with cheers from the cheerleading squad. Members of the cheerleading squad are: Haiden Simpson, Alexis Lipscomb, Megan McCain, Carlie Brown, Riley Libby Karlie Bailey, Kaylei Lauer, Trinity Boyle, Alyssa McCain, and Alexa Stottlemyre.
The athletes on the volleyball and the cross country teams were presented to the students, parents, and staff of CKS. The girls’ cross country team is composed of Alexis Crum, Tamela Greenhaw, and Rylee Smith. The members of the boys’ cross country team are: Micah DeHaven, Wade Gore, John Pelham, Lane Sharp, and Michael Smith.
The middle school volleyball team members are: Karlie Baylie, Alissa Beckham, Raechel Brinkman, Payton Campbell, Aneilyah Crum, Nyah Dalton, Emmy Everidge, Devin Haines, Kaycee Johns,
Michelle Kasco, Kaylei Lauer, Alyssa McCain, Lori Moser, Lexi Sharp, Kayley Sloan, and Morgan Winfield. The varsity volley ball team players are: Kendall Bailey, Jessie Barrett, Allie Collins, Audrey Collins, Leianna Dalton, Baylie Doty, Becca King, Alexis Lipscomb, Anna Lovoie-Ingram,Tatyana Miranda, MacKenna Shuman, Rylee Smith, Alexa Stottlemyre, Tia Wein, and Skylar Wirth.
The officers of the FFA were also announced. The middle school chapter officers are: President Payton Campbell, Vice-President Raechel Brinkman, Secretary Emmy Everidge, Treasurer Alyssa McCain, Reporter Morgan Winfield, Sentinel Kayley Sloan, Student Advisor Kaylei Lauer and Chaplain Kaycee Johns. The senior chapter officers are: President Amanda Robinson, Vice-President Alexis Lipscomb, Secretary Becca King, Treasurer Skylar Wirth, Reporter Anna LaVoie-Ingram, Sentinel Alexis Barber, and Student Advisor Mikey Beckham.
A crab walk race brought with it more cheers and laughter. A student from each grade was selected by attendance and good behavior to challenge the cross county team. To help over come the disparity of the elementary school kids and the cross country team, the elementary school kids were given wheel boards. It was difficult to determine who was the winner.
The next challenge was and abbreviated volleyball game between the girls volley ball team and the staff. The staff members that participated in the game were: Jessi Crosby, Jessica Sloan, Rachel Wetherington, Dusty Smith, Lisa Smith, and Brandon Hutton. The girls’ volleyball team were initially caught off guard, but recovered to win the match. The pep rally left everyone in good spirits and proud of all the Cedar Key teams.
