NEW CKPOTTERY 2019

LIGHT UP, CEDAR KEY…BEAUTIFUL!

November 28, 2019

With the help and admiration of residents and many visitors, Second Street in Cedar Key was illuminated on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.  Besides the part time residents, visitors came from Bronson, Chiefland, Gainesville, Alachua, and Orlando. Estimations were that some 400 to 500 people enjoyed the evening Lighting Up affair.

The evening began at 6 pm at the corner of State Road 24 and Second Street where hundreds gathered to have a glass of wine and listen to music at the Cedar Key Historical Society. Across the street, in front of the 1842 Daily Grind, Dottie Haldeman, family, and friend provided more music.

In forty-five minutes, owners of the 1842 Daily Grind, Martin Kemp and Terry Williams, saw 600 cookies and nine gallons of holiday cheer finished.

The crowd glided its way east on Second Street viewing the businesses’ store windows and lights as they meandered.

The piece de resistance was the lighting of the Chamber of Commerce Christmas forty foot tall tree. As the hundreds milled about the tree base, Chamber President Caryn Stephenson thanked all for attending and began the count down. Immediately after the “one” the tree was illuminated … followed of course, by “ooohs” and “aaahs.”
