NEW CKPOTTERY 2019
AQUACULTURE ASSOCIATION GIVEAWAY
OFFERS FREE CLAMS TO VISITORS
MAY 27, 2020
If you were leaving Cedar Key on Monday, May 25, between 1 pm and 4 pm, you might have noticed colorful signs, waving flags, and folks ushering northbound drivers off State Road 24 and onto the B&E Seafood property, just south of the Cedar Key Woman’s Club.

Upon arrival, travelers were met by Cedar Key Aquaculture Association folks, including Advisor Leslie Sturmer, Sue Colson, Rosie Cantwell, and Gretchen and Ian Stone. Careful of their product, and careful of the travelers, all wore masks and gloves. Each visitor was awarded a hefty bag of 75 Cedar Key raised, delicious clams to take home and enjoy.

Not only did the travelers receivethe clams, but the CKAA also provided a brochure advising how to transport, store, and cook the shellfish. Even better, they distributed a second brochure full of clam recipes. The visitors could not go wrong: they had the clams and how to cook them all in one package…and delivered by smiling, generous clammers.

The clam recipients were full of praise for the Aquaculture Association’s efforts. One child wrote a thank-you note, published here. Others echoed, “Thanks; we’ll be back,” “Cedar Key is great,” and “Happy Memorial Day, thanks.” Quite appreciative testaments to CKAA’s generous effort.
The event was sponsored by the CKAA in concert with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences. Thanks go the following Cedar Key wholesalers: B&E Seafood, Big Moon Clams, Cedar Key Aquaculture Farms, Cedar Key Seafood Distributors, Cedar Shoals, Clamtastic, Davis Seafarms, Dog Island Blues Clam Co., Sloan’s Seafood, Southern Cross Seafarms, and Quality Shellfish.
