CITY PASSES COVID-19  RESOLUTION: “STRONGLY RECOMMENDS” MASK WEARING AND FOLLOWING CDC GUIDELINES

July 21, 2020

Cedar Key commissioners discussed covid-19 at its Tuesday, July 21, 2020, 6 pm regular monthly commission meeting.  They arrived at the conclusion to “strongly recommend” mask wearing and following the current Centers for Disease Control guidelines of physical distancing, hand washing, and using hand sanitizer.

Mayor Heath Davis, Vice-Mayor Sue Colson, and Commissioners Susan Rosenthal and Nancy Sera were present; Commissioner Jim Wortham was not present.

Th four discussed Commissioner Rosenthal’s motion to require mask wearing; both Colson and Sera negated the motion noting the difficulty in enforcing such a mandate.  The resolution to “strongly recommend” mask wearing and following the remaining Centers for Disease Control guidelines of physical distancing, hand washing, and using hand sanitizer passed unanimously, with four to zero vote.

Commissioners and Chamber of Commerce President Caryn Stephenson entertained the possibility of working closely together to make obvious the city’s position with signage to be placed at participating businesses’ entries.  The signs would contain common images and language advising potential customers that the establishment requires or recommends mask wearing, supports CDC guidelines, and is endorsed by the City of Cedar Key in its efforts.
