According to Florida Department of Transportation spokesman Troy Roberts, State Road 24 may open this Friday if all goes as planned and weather does not interrupt that plan.   When and if that happens, the road will not be completely back to normal but will be passable.

Crews have been working since the end of July locating the breadth and depth of the sinkhole on the road and several other depressions nearby.  FDOT thinking is to fix it properly, fully, and once.  Roberts said the department does not want to move all the equipment and personnel in and out and have to return for another like situation shortly thereafter.  Hence the length of time thus far.   They want to be thorough, Roberts reported.

When the road opens, hopefully on Friday, crews will put in place metal plates for cars to drive upon, they will close lanes as needed, and will finish boring the area.
