New Look for Mangroves at the Marina
Window Cut Demonstration Site
Window Cut Demonstration Site
The City of Cedar Key has recently had the mangroves at the inside marina trimmed to provide better vision and safety. But instead of doing a typical “cut-off-the-top,” as is usually done, a “window cut” was achieved.
This “window cut” allows the plants to be trimmed and a view provided, with less damage to the protected plants.
The result: increased safety and healthier trees while still providing the desired view.
The trimming was provided by Legacy Arborist Service – 863.670.0734.
Before cutting mangroves, contact the Department of Environmental Protection, 904.256.1700, for questions and regulations regarding mangroves management and trimming. Services of a licenced arborist or certified mangrove trimmer may be required.
