Arts Center Plans Children`s Art Classes

Cedar Key Arts Center

The Cedar Key Arts Center welcomes Elizabeth Cantu.

We would like to introduce you to Ms. Elizabeth Cantu. She will be the teacher for the Kids Summer Art Program at the Cedar Key Arts Center in June.

Elizabeth is a student at the Savannah School of Art and Design where she is exploring a career as a fashion designer. As a current university fine art major, she brings fresh ideas and new techniques to our program as well as serving as a role model for our kids who would like to continue their education after high school.

Awards & scholarships attest to Elizabeth's talent. She is a recipient of a National Gold Key Individual for Installation and National Silver Key Portfolio through the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. She was invited to Carnegie Hall to accept her prize while her work was exhibited in their gallery space in Manhattan. She has earned a total of $20,000.00 annually in academic, artistic, and multicultural scholarships. In recognition of her academic efforts and achievements, Elizabeth is member of the Dean's List at her university.

It is not just her talent that drew our attention. Her playful spirit and vitality captivated us. We believe her enthusiasm will captivate CK kids, as well.

Elizabeth has prepared various art projects for the Kids' Summer Art Program with an emphasis on using recycled materials. Natural and man made objects will be used.

Marsha Schwartz & Janet Cook, CKAC board members will act as Elizabeth's assistants during class.

The Kids Summer Art Program, held in June, is for children entering kindergarten through the sixth grades. Pre registration is required. Registration forms can be obtained through Miss Debbie Manansala, the art teacher at Cedar Key School or at the Keyhole gallery on 2nd Street, across from the CK Library. Class size is limited, so register soon.

We'd like to thank the CK Lion's Club, CKAC members and the community for your financial & volunteer support of our Children's Art Programs. Thanks to you, we are able to provide these programs to our kids.

We hope you'll join us in welcoming Elizabeth to town and in your children's participation of the Kids Summer Art Program in June.

CK Arts Center: Teen Silk Painting Workshop with Virginia Stevenson

Virginia Stevenson delighted the CK Arts Center when she volunteered to hold a silk dying workshop at the center for Middle & High School students in June.

We have admired Virginia's work which is displayed and sold at the Keyhole.
As always, we appreciate local artists who share their talent with our CK kids.

Recently, Virginia visited Debbie Manasala's art classes at the CK school demonstrating the techniques of her art. The kids were fascinated and enthusiastic about enrolling in her classes.

Virginia's workshop will be composed of 3 classes during the first week and a final session a week later. Should any student need to miss a class, the art center will be happy to make arrangements with the parent & the student to complete their project.

Pre registration is required. Registration forms can be obtained through Miss Debbie Manansala, the art teacher at Cedar Key School or at the Keyhole gallery on 2nd Street, across from the CK Library. Class size is limited, so register soon

Her classes are for Middle & High School students. All materials will be provided by the Arts Center. The classes will be held in the evenings, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Arts Center on Monday, 6/16, Tuesday, 6/17, Thursday 6/19 and on Tuesday, 6/24.

Drop by the Keyhole, check out Virginia's art work and register your kids for her class.
Time with Ms. Virginia, will be time well spent during summer vacation.
