SMILE – THE DOGS ARE IN THE PARK – AGAIN!

Everyone loves a parade, and no town loves dogs more than Cedar Key! Come share the fun from 2 to 4 o’clock on Thursday, March 7, in the Cedar Key Park. Bring your favorite pooch – in costume or just as himself and take part in the parade. There will be prizes in unusual categories!

Registration will take place in the Gazebo from 2 o’clock on, with the Parade beginning at 3. Registration is free, and there will be photographers there to capture the moment, for a small fee. The Cedar Key Woman’s Club will be serving hotdogs and pupcakes, and there will be wonderful Vendors in the Pavilion.

The event is being planned to raise awareness for Operation Smile, an international program begun in 1982 to repair children’s cleft palates in third world countries. This is a cause for which the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in Florida is raising funds this year. The Cedar Key Sewing Group have already sewn and donated over 50 hospital gowns and bags to this worthy cause. Just $240 will finance a child’s surgery, and proceeds from the Doggie Parade will be sent to this wonderful program. GFWC Florida is hoping to pay for operations for 1000 children.

The Cedar Key community has been very generous in its support of CKWC fund-raising for various causes, and this international program is an exceptional opportunity for helping children. Even if you don’t have a dog to bring you, bring a chair and come share the fun at the SMILE Picnic in the Park from 2 to 4 on Thursday, March 7.
