SCHOOL BOARD SEAT
June 17, 2020
An energetic, affable Tammy Boyle met with the Cedar Key News staff on Monday, June 15, 2020, and spoke about her long-held desire to be involved with and help students and teachers. Her son graduated this year from Chiefland High School and Boyle decided to continue her work with the schools by running for a seat on the Levy County School Board.
Boyle is running for Levy County School Board District Two. Her only opponent, as of today, is former principal of Cedar Key School Darby Allen.

BACKGROUND
Born in Connecticut and upon coming of age, Boyle moved to South Florida and then to Clearwater where she met her husband Jim. Jim, born and bred in Chiefland, and a “lifer” in Levy County Public Schools, now operates a mobile imaging business, which Tammy manages.

As a youngster, Tammy Boyle remembers that her parents could have been more engaged in her schooling and after school planning efforts. She resolved then to become active and involved with the schooling of any future family her own. As son Jimmy entered kindergarten, Tammy became “room mom” and has been involved ever since. Boyle reports her son to be “confident,” dually enrolled in high school, desirous “to be a broadcast journalist.”
Boyle reported that she has been seated on the school’s School Advisory Committee and the District Advisory Committee and has engineered a Track and Field Booster Club that has raised $18,000 in two years.
GOALS
When asked what she would like to initiate, Boyle responded that she would like to “build morale among the teachers,” noting that they appear a “little down” and do not feel always listened to about issues that concern them. Boyle believes “good communication” is essential to solving problems.

She spoke of conquering “capacity barriers.” “I don’t have all the answers,” she said, but we keep learning.”
When asked what she believes Levy residents and parents want from a school board member, Boyle responded, “Parents want transparency among teachers, administrators, and parents.”
CEDAR KEY SCHOOL
When asked what she would do to help Cedar Key School, she responded that maintenance projects would top the list. She further remarked that assisting Dr. Mike Allen’s efforts in the school through UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station would be a priority.

CHARACTER
Boyle also talked about the importance of character and her knowledge that if she is true to her word, she will maintain the confidence of the people she serves. She says, “she will identify current problems, fine the solutions and will not give up.”
