NEW SIGN
The Cedar Key Food Pantry now sports a new sign in its front yard, easily seen by passersby on State Road 24. The Pantry logo was created by Emily Colson; the sign was erected by Joe Hand; the sign was made by B4Signs in Williston. It is handsome, subtle, and informative, couldn’t be better.

FATHERS’ DAY
Fathers’ Day at the Cedar Key Food Pantry brought a package of useful items to the each dad among us. Each large plastic container held: a towel, three pairs of sox, a bar of Zest soap, shaving cream, two razors, and deodorant. Each father received one and thanked the volunteers and Colson.
PLANTS
Cedar Key resident and gardener Beth Mizell brought to the Pantry pepper plats, tomato plants, and spinach plants. Each plant carried a note identifying it and offering directions on how to continue the plant’s healthy growth. Such a wonderful idea! “I just love this stuff!” exclaimed Colson.

GREAT, HEALTHY CHOICES
Prepackaged boxes filled with chicken, carrots, oranges, apples, cheese, milk, grapes, and pineapples were available. Beef and pork were available, too. Canned goods offered are often low-sodium, such as spinach. Orange and grapefruit juice, whole grain breads, muffins, water-packed Chicken of the Sea tuna, and cereals were also available this week.

FOCUS ON HURRICANE SEASON
Each visitor received a cardboard box containing hurricane preparedness items.
In addition, visitors walked away with an abundance of import written material. The pamphlet, “Make Your Own Disaster Ready Kit,” contains directions for making a senior’s , a pet’s, a kid’s, as well as the basic Rady Kit. With such kits, all one needs to do, in the event one must move from home during a disaster, is grab one’s kit leave….a wonderful activity for kids and consummately helpful to the entire family.
Disability information was also distributed. Registration with the county, preparation suggestions, and checklists to minimize conflict in the event of a hurricane were in place.
HELP
In addition to the regular volunteers, three ladies from Bronson and Morriston assisted Cedar Key Food Pantry Director Sue Colson package foodstuffs. Colson always needs and graciously accepts help. “Never do I turn anyone wanting to help away; there’s always something to do,” says Colson.
