January 5, 2020
Our first lecture this year will feature one of our favorite creatures; the manatee. Our presenter, Joyce Kleen, works for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) as a wildlife biologist on the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge Complex in and near Crystal River. Joyce has worked since 1981 as a biological technician, wildlife biologist, and assistant refuge manager on nine refuges in two regions.
Among her other duties, Joyce has participated in the Manatee Recovery Team, Whooping Crane Recovery Team, and the Promises Team. She has worked with a number of endangered species, including the manatees, bald eagles, and whooping cranes, as well as many others, and she has coordinated with other federal state and local agencies and non-governmental organizations on a variety of projects.
