PUBLIC COMMENT
SIMPSON FAMILY CONCERN:
Commissioner Nickie Rucker reported that the funeral parlor representative at Bob Simpson’s funeral, on February 20, 2018, was given the wrong information about burial fees from City Hall staff, and that she went to the cemetery that morning to explain the fee mistake to that representative.

Simpson’s family members and friends spoke saying Rucker’s action was “rude,”
“disrespectful,” and could certainly have waited until after the funeral. Barbara McJordan said she was ashamed of the town, as no one was at the funeral to say words about Simpson’s prior Cedar Key Building Administrator and Fire Department service to the city.

Mayor Heath Davis thanked the family members for their input, explained that they had given the commission much to ponder, and averred that the “commission would do a better job in the future.”

GRANT APPLICATION:
Nature Coast Biological Station’s Dr. Savanna Barry requested permission to apply for a grant that will assist homeowners and city officials plan and protect their properties and adapt to sea-level rise and climate change. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Climate and Resilience Community of Practice, and Sea Grant application requires city permission, which was unanimously granted, and will be written by Dr. Barry.

CERTIFIED MUNICIPAL CLERK
City Clerk Nicole Gill has completed the requirements of the Certified Municipal Clerk Program offered by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
