MIME TROUPE TO SET UP SHOP IN CEDAR KEY
April 1, 2019
The world famous Pamplemouse Manque Mime Troupe, known especially for its cutting-edge representations of modern American life, will visit Cedar Key in June for a week of performance and international good will.
The Troupe, whose leader Jacques de Jacques Philamon-Durdley once studied under the great nephew of famed French mime Marcel Marceau’s cousin’s neighbor, will first be artists-in-residence at the Bronson Speedway performing a mime based on Monster Truck Racing before heading west to Cedar Key. Once here, the group will begin studying life here on the Nature Coast, looking for typical activities to present. Ideas for mimes to develop include waiting for a pumpkin spice latte at 1842, a city council meeting featuring the “great awning debate,” an afternoon of good cheer at the Eagles Club, and an airboat flushing a flock of roosting oyster catchers.
Also tentatively planned is a full cast mime in which the entire spring arts festival is performed, the Second Seminole War is recreated, and 1890 Cedar Key Mayor Wild Bill Cottrell’s reign of terror is acted out in full mimic splendor. Cast members of the troupe include Gilles de Boulebois Monswette, Aime Planche-Vigoute, Francoise “Le Narine Seche” Guillaume-Petroit, and Buddy Ed Flurge (of the Williston Flurges). Vice Mayor Sue Colson is very excited to bring such a cultural coup to this island; she asks that audiences treat the mimes with the respect they are no doubt due.
