Big Dock, Then and Now

Big Dock, Then and Now

Editor

This photo, provided by Cedar Key resident Bill Bale, shows the old Cedar Key Railroad Dock as it appeared in 1931.

The first stage of building a fishing pier off Cedar Key`s Dock Street is removal of the damaged old structure. Lucas Marine Construction at the end of a week`s work has removed the old finger piers and part of the main structure.

A floating barrier has been erected to contain debris. The old pilings will soon be pulled up in preparation for drilling holes for the new concrete pilings.

According to the contract between Lucas Marine and Levy County, the project must be completed within 240 days of the start of work. There is a provision for a $2470 per day penalty for any delay beyond the 240 day limit.

Contest Notice

Cedar Key News is sponsoring a contest to designate the day construction of the "Big Dock" is completed. Look for contest details and entry form in the December 13 print edition of Cedar Key News or go online to print out an entry form. Cash prizes and gift certificates will go to the most accurate estimates of completion date.
