Book Review

M.E. Landress, Author

Former Cedar Key resident, Maureen Landress, recently had her debut novel, Sour Grapes, released by Infinity Publishing.

A light-hearted and humorous mystery, sixty-something Marvella Watson can no longer tolerate her verbally abusive and mean-spirited husband, Frank. With his approaching retirement, she knows her life will only get worse. So mild-mannered, citizen-abiding Marvella sets about to devise the perfect murder—poisoning Frank with wild grapes she slips into his salad.

But events don't proceed quite like Marvella had planned. She manages to make unlikely friends with a biker group, is now under the rule of her eldest son and is scrambling to cover her tracks.

The novel has a southern setting and a cast of endearing characters. Marvella Watson is reminiscent of Miss Julia in the Ann B. Roth series. This author pulls her readers along in a very entertaining debut novel and includes a recipe at the back of the book for Marvella's Marvelous Grape Salad—the non-poisonous version.

Landress now resides in Old Town, with her husband and two cats. She previously worked at the Cedar Key Library and was editor for the Cedar Key News. Now retired, she is currently at work on her next novel and can be contacted at rmlandress@juno.com
