Selected Art on Display in Cedar Key`s April Show

Jim Hoy

Artists and art lovers spent an intimate ten minutes chatting in booths during a mid-afternoon rain shower at Cedar Key's art show Sunday. The rest of the day the crowd viewed and purchased paintings, jewelry, ceramics, metal sculpture, etc.

Snapper by Kevin Jenkins

The first booth visitors encountered as they entered the Second Street venue featured spectacular metal sculptures by Kevin Jenkins, who was the recipient of a purchase award by Nature Coast Realty.

Acrylic on canvas, by Miriam Novack.

Nearby, Miriam Novack displayed her acrylic on canvas paintings which are more easily seen than described.

Seaturtle by Alexis Barbeau.

Also nearby, delicate sea-creature jewelry and rings were shown by Alexis Barbeau of Ft. Lauderdale.

A Jim Wilshire painting.

A recipient of a purchase award from Drummond Community Bank, Jim Wilshire's paintings of boats and men drew much attention.

Rita Schwab works on one of her creations.

Some artists practiced their art as show visitors passed through their booths.

Mike Segal's "Masks."

Local artist Mike Segal presented his wide range of colorful paintings, as in past years.

Beetle?

Some artists show their creative spirit at an early age.

3-D by Susan Livingston.

Susan Livingston, one of the show's Award of Excellence winners, presented her 3-D creations for show visitors.

Watercolor by Chen.

Virginia Chen of Gainesville, a regular participant in the Cedar Key show, filled her booth with watercolors that featured nature themes.

The quality and variety of the 120-plus exhibits at the 2008 "Old Florida Celebration of the Arts" gives promise of perpetuation of Cedar Key as an "art destination."
