Meet New Baptist Church Pastor Todd Pope

Jim Hoy

Pastor Todd Pope of the Cedar Key First Baptist Church received the call to the ministry at age sixteen and has followed that path for thirty years. Brother Pope and his wife Star have five children. The youngest three are in Cedar Key School. They are daughter Aubrey, 16, son Austin, 14 and daughter Mikayla, 12. Mrs. Pope is also a student. She is in her last year in preparation to become a nurse.

Brother Pope has received his theological training from the Luther Rice Seminary while serving churches in Lakeland, FL. For the past eighteen years he has been a Senior Pastor in Lakeland area churches.

The Popes have been coming Cedar Key over the past ten years to visit Brother Pope's father who has been a Cedar Key resident for that time.

Brother Pope named Galatians as his favorite book of the Bible when asked. He added that his favorite Apostle is Peter. Peter's impetuosity is the attraction, a trait that Brother Pope said he shares with Peter.

Brother Pope's number one priority in Cedar Key is to "show the love of Christ to the people." He also spoke enthusiastically of the newly instituted joint meetings of the Cedar Key congregations of the Baptist Church, Methodist Church and Episcopal Church.
