The following is excerpted from  a 1000 Friends of Florida "Saving Special Places" Brief.

M-CORES, the proposed project to build more than 300 miles of toll roads through predominantly rural western Florida, is gearing up again.  1000 Friends remains actively engaged and we hope you are able to, as well.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline for submitting the Task Force reports to the Governor and Legislature has been extended to November 15, 2020. But FDOT is moving ahead quickly.

The next series of M-CORES Task Force meetings will be held this week as online webinars hosted by FDOT. We encourage you to register and share your thoughts:

You may also provide live comments during the meeting but need to register at the above link by 5 p.m. the day prior to the meeting at which you wish to speak.

Also, to assist you in better understanding the process, 1000 Friends of Florida has prepared a series of Citizen Primers. Our latest, Citizen Primer 4: The Corridor Task Force Process, highlights the process being used by the task forces to prepare their respective reports.

Please also take a moment to read 1000 Friends Board Chair Susan Trevarthen's op ed, With COVID-19-related budget cuts looming, Florida should kill budget-busting road projects.

M-CORES will bring major change to Florida, and your active engagement remains as important as ever.

With hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and well,
