OYSTER REEF STRUCTURES NEARLY COMPLETE!
June 22, 2020
June 22, 2020
In a mere eight days, Drs. Savanna Barry and Mark Clark moved 384 1,300 pound reef balls into place to protect Airport Road and, of course, the properties along it.
Of course, Barry and Clark didn’t move the balls themselves…but they did every other thing involved with the restoration of the shoreline…none of which was simple.
Some of those things include:
gathering the community (through zillions of emails, personal telephone calls, and many meetings);
researching the community’s needs and desires;
informing the community of the science supporting the suggestions;
helping the community reach consensus (not so simple);
seeking and receiving permits from multiple state and federal agencies;
ordering the oyster reef structures;
overseeing the placement of the 384 1,200 structures.
WHEW!

Drs. Barry and Clark cite the next step is to truck in sand. Residents will be informed as details present themselves.
