The Cedar Key Food Pantry, thanks to all Cedar Key area residents who magnanimously gave of their time, energy, hard labor, dollars, and concern, is operational and thriving. Because you, the reader, are so integral to the health of the Food Pantry and its efforts, I hope to publish this “Food for Thought “ article regularly to keep you informed of all our efforts regarding our community’s physical health, mental health, care-giving capacity, and more.

FEBRUARY FOCUS

February’s focus at the Food Pantry were personal gifts for clients. Women received skin softener, toothpaste, hand sanitizers, and deodorant. Men received shaving products and deodorant. The gifts were given near Valentine’s Day.

PARENTING CLASS PLANNED   The Pantry is investigating parenting classes to help busy parents understand and better cope with the challenges of nurturing their youngsters. More information will be forthcoming.

SEVENTY HOUSEHOLDS SERVED   The most recent number of households served by the Food Pantry numbers seventy. Older seniors make up a substantial portion of that number.

WELL FLORIDA WORKSHOP PLANNED   Jim Feller, Chief Executive Officer of Well Florida, is planning a retreat / workshop in the Food Pantry’s Room Three sometime in the near future.

EMPTY BOWLS THANKS   I wish to thank the people involved in the Empty Bowls effort again. The army of individuals, planning, creating bowls, making soup, serving, creating salads, creating desserts, and cleaning up was of heroic proportion. Such a wonderful, supportive community are we. I could not be more appreciative of every one of you. Thanks to you, the proceeds from Empty Bowls exceeded those of prior years.

SPECIAL THANKS TO PANTRY PROPERTY OWNER   I wish to echo again a sincere thank you to the property owner who has afforded us the space from with we are able to help people. The Cedar Key Food Pantry would not exist without this great place.
