Levy County Animal Services and the Humane Society of Levy County, Inc. have partnered up for Disaster Preparedness. Those that need to evacuate during a Disaster may bring their pets to the Levy County Animal Services Shelter, which is located at 12055 NE 69th Lane ( Levy County Landfill Compound). The Emergency Pet Shelter will open only when the Emergency Management Office opens up the Shelters for people. When bringing your pet to the Emergency Pet Shelter you should have a kennel or crate big enough for the animal to turn around and stand up. A current vaccination record with rabies, pet food, bottled water, strong leashes, medication, food dishes, mechanical can opener, favorite toy or blanket, and
cat litter and a pan.
The Humane Society of Levy County has about 50 crates for dogs, but it is best to provide your own in case there aren't any left for your pet. People with Special Needs will have to make arrangements with the Health Department for their transport as well as their pets. Pets will not be allowed in the shelters for people. At Levy County Animal Services there is enough room for about 250 animals in the new warehouse and office. All animals coming into the emergency shelter will have their pictures taken with their owner during the intake process. Be prepared.
