Dan Dourson, an endangered species biologist, shows a critter to a group of eager children who visited the "Creepy Crawlers" exhibit at the Library Tuesday. The children, from left, are Taylor Monday, Bianca Spraggs, Jacob and Holly Bishop. Dourson and his wife, Judy, told the children about many species which live right around us in Cedar Key, but are rarely seen and little appreciated. Dourson explained to the children the necessity of protecting species which contribute to the health of the ecosystem. Dr. John Andrews looks on as Jacob Bishop tells a story of a wildlife experience he had with his Dad. He and his sister Holly asked many good questions. Nearly 200 trick-or-treaters and their parents viewed the exhibit during the evening. The Doursons collected the snakes, turtles, lizards, salamanders, frogs, toads and other species in the Cedar Key area. One of the fastest items in the exhibit was this black racer, held by Dan Dourson. The children were able to touch such things as a spade foot frog, a glass lizard and many others. |
