Acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency, four City Commissioners approved $550,000 for renovation of the Cedar Key Historical Society Museum building. Extensive work is needed to restore the historic structure. Using $500,000 of recently received bond funds and $50,000 carried over from a previous budget, the project was unanimously approved. Dr. John Andrews, representing the Cedar Key Historical Society, said by eliminating an expanded fire suppression system, the project has been estimated to cost $642,925. The Historical Society has $35,000 to add to the $550,000 from the city. Greg Lang, a member of the project committee, vouched for the reliability of the estimated project cost. Lang suggested that bids from contractors could be in within two months. |
