Dock Street Melee

An apparent double parking infraction on Dock Street devolved into a confrontation between an acquaintance of the driver and two Cedar Key Police officers April 28.

Eyewitnesses agree that Danny Beckham, 50 interceded as police talked to the driver of a double parked truck. Beckham was subsequently thrown to the ground and tazed three times and struck on the head prior to being taken to the Levy County Jail.

According to Beckham, he was brought before Judge Joseph Smith April 29 at which time he was charged with resisting arrest with violence and resisting arrest without violence. Bond was set at $3500. Cedar Key Police Chief Bubba Castell declined to comment on the Beckham case or on a possibly related case of vandalism against two police cars.

During the confrontation, not only was Beckham tazed but also the second officer who was invloved was given a shock. Witness said that an ambulance was called for the tazed officer.
