By all accounts, the 2008 Clamerica Celebration was a complete success. Most of the food booths sold out of their offerings before the afternoon wound down. According to members of the Cedar Key Aquaculture Association, 31,000 clams were cooked, eaten and enjoyed during the afternoon. Rosemary Danesi, foreground, volunteered with many other members of the CKAA to provide clams to happy customers. Clam farmer Gene Hunter spent the 4th of July steaming thousands of clams. At the end of the afternoon, he still had a big smile on his face! Thousands of clam shells and empty clam baskets were displayed in Cedar Key City Park, a glorious testament to the success of Clamerica, the celebration of the city`s clam farming industry. Clam farmer Ross Buck and his wife Dawn were appropriately attired to celebrate the 4th of July holiday. They and several thousand other folks came from far and wide to enjoy the food, sun, beach, activities, live music and other festivities of Clamerica. |
