Cedar Key's Fire Chief Robert Robinson made an impassioned and very detailed request to the CRA Board for purchase of a boat that can serve for rescue on the water as well as for fighting fires. Chief Robinson explained that concerns about a cost of $150,000 were unjustified. He said that a boat would cost between $30,000 and $85,000 if new. Commissioner Gene Hodges, who had spoken derisively of the boat at an earlier meeting, attempted to bring the issue to a vote. After Robinson's presentation, Hodges was apparently moved by the passion or logic. He move to allocate, first $47,000, and then $55,000 for purchase of a boat and construction of a storage space for the boat. After the meeting Chief Robinson expressed pleasure with the unanimous approval of the boat purchase by the CRA Board. |
