Former County Commissioners Convicted

Editor

Former Levy County Commissioners Sammy Yearty and Tony Parker were convicted Friday on Federal charges of conspiracy and soliciting bribes. The two suspended commissioners will be sentenced in April 2010.

Yearty, 63, and Parker, 49 were charged after their meeting with an undercover FBI agent posing as a land developer was caught on videotape. Following their arrest in November of last year, Yearty and Parker were removed from office by Governor Charlie Crist. A similar scheme resulted in charges to two former Dixie County commissioners.
