If you want to know anything about the clam industry in Cedar Key, the only place to go is the back room at the City’s Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center. Some other clam tours are in town are not currently open. Here you will get everything except a boat ride.

You will learn about clams from spawn to plate. How they are grown from seed and planted in the surrounding waters, the various stages of growth and eventually harvested, sold in our local restaurants and throughout the country. The presentation includes an overview of the environmental and economic benefits of the industry to the community and a hands-on display of the life of the clams.
There is more to be learned and experienced at the back room about Cedar Key than the mighty clams. The presentation is usually presented by a former clammer who works closely with the clamming industry to maintain clean and healthy waters for clam farming.
This family visiting from France loved Cedar Key and thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit.
There you will see the horseshoe crab exhibit and learn how they are being used in medicine to protect patients during operations. Learn the basic anatomy overview from the models and brochures.


Another exhibit show our brown pelicans and how the local pelican rescue works in Cedar Key. Pick up some stickers and a brochure.
Don’t forget to look for the fiddler crab exhibit.If you have any questions, this is the place go for answers.Look for the informative Shellfish Trail signs at various site around town and come into the Welcome Center for terrific, informative visit.
