As you may be aware, the Lower Suwannee and Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge is unable to provide staff to greet and assist visitors at the Front Desk. For the last few years, Friends of the Lower Suwannee and Cedar Keys Wildlife Refuges has provided volunteers to meet this need. We have a dedicated and enthusiastic group of volunteers but need more help, especially for the upcoming January-April high season. When volunteers are unavailable, visitors often are greeted with a closed and locked gate.
If you feel you can join our group of volunteers by answering questions and providing written materials to visitors, please join our effort. Just reply to this

email with your contact information (email and phone) and times when you might be available. Training materials and on-the-job training with an experienced volunteer are available. If you feel you lack enough knowledge to serve at this point, don’t worry. Most of us started out with only basic knowledge about the refuge, but we found it easy to learn with the wealth of written material that Friends has developed over the years.
Generally, volunteers work weekday shifts 10 am-1 pm, 1 pm-4 pm, or both. Even if you can only work one shift a month, your help would be much appreciated.
