Editor’s Note: At the Tuesday, July 7, 2020, Emergency Cedar Key Commission Meeting, the following report was shared.
Dr. Joe Bisesi from the UF Department of Environmental and Global Health began collecting weekly wastewater influent samples from the Cedar Key Water and Sewer District Treatment Plant on 4/30/2020.
Samples have been collected on 4/30, 5/7, 5/14, 5/21, 5/28, 6/4, 6/11, 6/13, 6/18, and 6/25. To date, all samples have been negative for the presence of SARS-CoV-2.
Because most samples were collected during the week, we have also begun collecting samples on the weekends of 6/13 and 7/4 to determine if weekend traffic causes SARS-CoV-2 to show up in the treatment plant. The sample from 6/13 was negative. Results from the samples on 7/4 will be available early next week.
