RAKU PARTY!
February27, 2019
Over a period of two weeks, approximately 15 people gathered at the Cedar Key Pottery studio of Henry and Amy Gernhardt to make pottery then to glaze and fire a method known as Raku. This ancient tradition came from Korea then spread to Japan where they made tea bowls for the Tea Ceremony.
A homogenous form combined with rapid fire and glaze techniques makes for a variety of different results. Combine that with relatively new artists and you have a great time!
Henry Gernhardt started the Cedar Key Raku Party and the tradition has continued for over 20 years. Thank you to Dean Counselman, Rob Rugur and Anne Lindgren for helping make this a success!
