Varsity Volleyball
By: Caely Hibbits and Ceciley Bierman

The Sharks gym was packed on Friday the seventh for the varsity girls' first home volleyball game. The girls played three matches against Hernando Christian School and despite their efforts lost all. The scores were 12-25, 16-25 and lastly 10-25.
Coach Aaron commented, "This is just the beginning of the season, we still have lots to work on." Senior, Shawna Fenton served 12 times and was successful 11 times. Katelyn Allen had no problems the five times she served and neither did Samantha Beckham on her serves. Jordan Watson saved three balls just as they were crashing to the ground and also had many successful sets.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the game of volleyball here is a short recap of the setter's position. When the team plays the 3 front 3 back set up, the setter plays center front row. They are normally the second hit; meaning when the ball comes over a player will bump it to her. The setter will then position their fingers above their head and push it up to the spikier. The set is not a flick of the fingers but a bounce of the entire body. Coach Aaron also stated "The setter is the quarterback of volleyball, it is important to set the ball into the spike zone and a quarterbacks' job is to throw the ball into a certain zone also."

"Push Me Forever!"
By: Claire Brown and Jessi Robinson

Preschooler Annie McCain was recently able to swing for the first time at school. Annie has Cerebral Palsy in both of her legs which makes her incapable of doing some normal preschool activities such as swinging.
When this year's senior class found out about Annie's problem, they became interested in helping and opted to get involved and try to make things a little easier for her. The seniors finally agreed on the idea of buying a special swing just for Annie. This swing has a back in it for support and a chain in the front for safety.
The first time Annie got on the swing, she happily told grandmother and preschool teacher Kathy McCain, "I never want to leave school, push me forever!!!" Now, Annie and her teachers are working towards getting her to pump her legs on her own.
