Storybook Character Parade By Patty Jett You might see some strange characters parading down the street on Wednesday, November 14th. Cedar Key Elementary will be having a Storybook Character Parade to celebrate National Children`s Book Week which is November 12th - 18th. Students in grade Kindergarten through fifth grade will meet in the auditorium to have students who are dressed as a character from a book go on stage with their class. Kindergarten and 2nd through 5th grade will parade down G street around to 1st street, left on C street and right to 2nd street to the Public Library. The parade will start between 8:30 and 8:45 at the school as soon as the classes have paraded across the auditorium stage. Molly Jubitz, the Cedar Key Public Librarian will share a story with kindergarten. Jenny Rodgers, the Youth Director for Levy County Public Library will read to the second through fifth grade students. Rose McCain disguised as a clown will tell a special story to first grade in the CKS Media Center. Students will head back to school and share with their class information about their character and the book. Hopefully students will be inspired to read some of the books presented by their classmates. Help us celebrate National Children`s Book Week by coming out and seeing the parade. No School Monday! By Jessi Robinson The Cedar Key Middle School ELP class is starting on a new project called "CKTV". The veterans, Jessi Robinson and Claire Brown, along with newcomer Alicia Lambert, started on this project with Ms. Brenda Coulter this past year. With a new gifted teacher this school year, Mr. Blake Davis, the class got the choice to either start on a new project, or finish what they had started in the '06-'07 school year. They decided to finish working on their newscast, which is referred to as "CKTV". "CKTV" is a monthly news show that the middle school ELP class creates each month. At the middle of every month, instead of having the announcements, all of the homeroom teachers turn on their TV's to watch this 2-3 minute telecast with their class. From being the "anchorwoman", or "anchorman", to even being the camera person; each student has their own job in helping make it all come together and work. The students plan to have their first telecast of the year come out in late November. |
