Robert Frost, William Shakespeare, and Cedar Key Freshman By Caely Hibbits The Cedar Key School freshmen are writing term papers this nine weeks. The students are spending about one to two months on the papers. Ms. April, the Cedar Key high school English teacher, assigned to each student an author of either poetry, or short stories. Some authors that Ms. April chose include Langston Hughes, Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Maya Angelou, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. On September 28th, 2007 the 9th graders wrote thesis statements for the introduction to the term paper. English I students learned how to cite resources in MLA format and how to use in text citations in their writing. After spending about one week in the library the students were required to turn in 4x6 index cards full of notes. The final draft of the term papers needs to be typed and bound with a cover sheet in correct order in a provided folder, have minimal spelling and grammatical errors, and be between 1,000-1,250 words. Students will also need to provide a visual aid and reflection that goes along with the poem or short story by their author that they read.

Kindergarten through 2nd grade enjoyed Shark Pride Day at the Cedar Key City Park. Then they were off to school for hamburgers and hotdogs, thanks to the Eagles Club. Dear Eagles, November 8, 2007 The Cedar Key School would like to thank you for purchasing the hot dogs and hamburgers for Shark Pride Day. We are very appreciative; we struggle to find words to describe our thanks for the charitable things you do for the school and community.
