Philip Parker, Cedar Key resident and Florida Resource Manager for Plum Creek Timber Company, has been appointed to a three-year term on the board of the Levy County Schools Foundation. Parker`s appointment was confirmed at the February Board of Directors Meeting. "We are honored to have a person of Mr. Parker`s knowledge and leadership abilities on our board as a director," says Bobbie Smith, past president and current Foundation board member. "Plum Creek`s commitment to sustainable forestry in our primarily agricultural, rural county creates a great partner for us," Smith added. In 2007 the Levy County Schools Foundation was a recipient of a Plum Creek Grant awarded to Williston High School FFA horticultural program. Parker oversees sustainable forestry operations including planting, harvesting, and fire prevention and fire fighting; mapping, inventory and environmental compliance for approximately 592,000 acres of Plum Creek forests in Florida. Parker graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management, and is Chairman of the Environmental Committee and on the Executive Board of the Florida Forestry Association "Serving on the board is a privilege," said Parker. "I`m looking forward to making a contribution to the schools that benefit from the Plum Creek Foundation`s efforts." The Levy County Schools Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation that expands the ability of local businesses, community groups and individuals to provide scholarships and fund special programs for Levy County Students.
