A great night in Cedar Key, it was! The Cedar Key Chamber of Commerce, thanks to Dennis Gill’s management, James Kyne of Kynex Fireworks Displays, Cedar Key Police Department under Police Chief Virgil Sandlin’s management, and Fire Chief and Emergency Operations Manager Robert Robinson made the night a success.
Thunder, lightning, and rain threatened the fireworks display all afternoon and into the evening. Hundreds and hundreds of people waited patiently with their children hoping that the display would not be cancelled.

At 10 pm, undaunted, the display began. Placed upon the city’s floating dock off Dock Street Pier, the fireworks were ignited. The show lasted a full thirty spectacular minutes.
One Gainesville visitor exclaimed, “I went to Gainesville’s fireworks display Tuesday evening, and Cedar Key’s display was much more impressive.” Another visitor remarked, “the reflection of the fireworks on the water and in the clouds was just wonderful.”
Getting off the island was not simple; many drivers clogged the roads. Cedar Key Police, however, managed the movement efficiently and all exited without incident. While babies finally slept, others left contented and happy to have been in Cedar Key of this Fourth of July.
