An All-American Play By Sarah Martin This year we are having our annual Christmas play, called "An All-American Christmas". Mrs. Brenda Coulter, who retired last year, will be helping like she used to with the program. The classes participating are Pre-k through fifth, with the fourth and fifth graders as the chorus and with speaking parts. The "All American Christmas" is about America being a "melting pot", a place where many different cultures are blended together. The narration will take them back to the time of Columbus. They will highlight the "scared meaning" of Christmas singing the most common Christmas folk songs, and American Christmas carols, spiritual music, and songs about Santa Claus. Each class will be dressed differently representing different cultures. The elementary students have already started to prepare for the play. Dress Rehearsal is December 10th at 12:30p.m and the actual play is December 11th at 7p.m. CKS Cheerleader Update By Claire Brown This year's CKS cheerleading squad consists of new comers Savannah Beckham, Aubrey Pope, and Amber White, and returnees Lacy Coulter, Jordan Watson, and Michelle DiMaggio. "I like being a cheerleader because it's very upbeat and exciting. It's also hard work but well worth it because I get to hang out with my friends, support my school, and stay fit at the same time" says Savannah Beckham. Each year the squad goes to Disney World to watch the national "Contest of Champions" cheerleading competition. However, not only will the squad be going to Disney to watch the competition, they'll be participating in it! The cheerleaders are planning to have many fundraisers to make the money to participate in things such as the competition. The squad had a fundraising dinner at Robinson's Seafood last Tuesday, November 18th. The cheerleaders sold Mullet Dinners at the restaurant from 5-7. They made $1084 and the proceeds went towards things that the cheerleaders will need for the season. Ms. Kim Bishop, CKS Cheer Coach, and the team would like to thank Robinson's Seafood, as well as the parents and all who supported the team through donations and purchasing tickets. Kindergarten Goes as Sherlock Holmes! By Caely Hibbits The Kindergarten class put on Sherlock Holmes caps, round rimmed glasses, magnifying glasses, and a clipboard. With all of the gear and their brains filled with the upper case and lower case letters, they set out to the Cedar Key Campus to find all of the letters of the alphabet and check them off of the list. An example was on the "Compass Lab" door the students could check off a "C" "o" "m" etc. In the following months they plan act as number detectives. |
